Oklahoma Needs Counselors. Could You Be One?

Oklahoma Needs Counselors. Could You Be One?While Oklahoma is a great place to live and attend college, several issues face our state that will need mental health professionals to help solve. A recent eight-part series in the Tulsa World highlights issues like incarceration rates, adverse childhood experience scores, homelessness, trauma, and more.

These problems can’t be solved overnight, and it will take countless people to find solutions. On top of that? Oklahoma’s population is increasing.

Growth projections are steady and mirror the projected national growth. And, of course, with more people living in the state, there’s a need for more services. One need is for counselors. Oklahoma needs mental health counselors, addiction counselors, school counselors, marriage counselors and more. As our communities grow, so does our need for counselors.

According to Mental Health America, there is a lack of mental health providers to address the increasing number of incidents and people suffering from various mental health issues. Unfortunately, the prevalence of mental health issues is higher in Oklahoma’s youth population versus the adult population.

Oklahoma needs trained, caring counselors to work with afflicted populations and treat those suffering from mental health issues.
