Guidance for PGS Students

Updated 7.22.2020

SNU traditional undergraduate and professional and graduate studies (PGS) classes that typically meet in a classroom will be delivered in a modified format of instruction.

  1. Students are encouraged to attend class in person. All in-person classes will adhere to mask policy, socially distanced seating, and cleaning protocols as outlined in the university reopening plans.
  2. Students who are ill, quarantined, or experiencing personal or family related health concerns may choose to utilize Zoom and Canvas learning tools to access class virtually, in real time or later in recorded fashion. PGS students, contact amccullar@mail.snu.edu
  3. Students attending SNU in fully online degree programs through the College of Professional and Graduate Studies will continue their education in asynchronous fashion, as normal.
  4. All SNU courses, no matter the modality, adhere to a stringent quality process of course creation and assessment that prescribes student learning objectives and measures outcomes.

As stated in the Classroom Flexibility Policy, students are encouraged to attend class in person. All in-person classes will adhere to mask policy, socially distanced seating, and cleaning protocols as outlined in the university reopening plans.

If a student cannot attend class in person, the student should follow the guidelines listed below under the appropriate circumstances for their situation.

I’ve tested positive for Covid-19:

  • If tested at a location other than the SNU Health Center, the Health Center should be notified immediately by calling 405-491-6605.
  • The SNU Health Center will notify the the Executive Director of Admissions and Student Experience, Alicia McCullar (amccullar@snu.edu) and a staff member will communicate with that student’s faculty to make them aware that the student will not attend in person for an extended period of time. The student will be copied in on all communication.

I’ve had a known exposure to Covid-19:

  • The student should self-quarantine immediately and should contact the SNU Health Center (405-491-6605) to determine next steps. The student should also notify the Executive Director of Admissions and Student Experience, Alicia McCullar (amccullar@snu.edu), and a staff member will communicate with that student’s faculty to make them aware that the student will not attend in person for an extended period of time. The student will be copied in on all communication.

I am experiencing symptoms related to Covid-19:

  • The student should self-quarantine immediately and contact the SNU Student Health Center (405-491-6605) to determine whether or not the student should be tested.
  • The PGS student should fill out this form if they are not able to attend class in person and a Student Success staff member will communicate with the student’s faculty.

I’ve determined that the face-to-face classroom experience is not appropriate for me based on personal or family related concerns or I’m an international student who cannot get to the US prior to classes starting:

An up-to-date log of PGS students accessing virtual class attendance/engagement options will be maintained by the PGS Student Experience team and made available to all faculty throughout the semester for reference purposes.

SNU Masking Policy and Disability Services

If a student indicates that compliance with the Masks for Students Policy is not possible due to medical reasons, the student should be referred to the Center for Student Success for an application for an accommodation.

  • All students (traditional and PGS) will work with the Office of Disability Services (DS) for accommodation purposes. The following steps will be followed:
    • Accommodation Request
    • Meeting with DS for Intake Interview. The student will need to gather disability documents. DS will explain the DS process to the student.
    • Disability Documentation Received in DS. DS will determine eligibility via in person conversations, virtual meetings, and/or email dialogue.
    • Appointment with student. The interactive dialogue process will be used to determine if another face covering solution can be found or if the appropriate accommodation is virtual class attendance/engagement for the duration of the SNU Masking requirements.
