Faith, Family, and Education: Vincent Cortez's Remarkable Story of Achievement

Vincent Cortez (2)-1Vincent's journey began amidst the challenges of his childhood, where stability seemed elusive and change was a constant companion. Yet, through it all, Vincent emerged as a resilient and determined individual, guided by a deep sense of purpose and a drive to create a better future for himself and his family.

"I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and lived there till I was 18 years old. I was the oldest of 4 children. My first language was Spanish until age 5 when I learned to speak English before beginning elementary school. Growing up was difficult in many ways, the biggest was constantly moving throughout the southern regions of San Antonio, TX from house to house. By the time I graduated High School, I had attended 9 different schools. Shortly after graduating from SWHS, that summer I found myself in Marine Corps Boot Camp."

Inspired by a mentor who saw his potential and encouraged him to strive for excellence, Vincent embarked on a journey of service and self-discovery in the United States Marine Corps. For 22 years, Vincent served his country with honor and dedication, embracing challenges and seizing opportunities for growth and leadership.

"After 22 years of faithful service, I retired from the military and moved the family back to San Antonio, TX. In 2016, we relocated to Oklahoma City and in 2018, we found ourselves moving again a few miles west to the amazing City of Bethany. Shortly after moving here and familiarizing myself with the area, is when I first learned about the SNU campus."

Transitioning to civilian life, Vincent sought new opportunities to continue his personal and professional growth. During this time, he discovered Southern Nazarene University (SNU), a place where faith and education converge to inspire individuals to reach their full potential. Vincent embarked on his MBA journey at SNU, eager to expand his knowledge and skills while nurturing his spiritual growth. Surrounded by supportive faculty and classmates, Vincent found himself challenged and inspired in equal measure.

"I chose SNU because I wanted to attend an educational institution that would help me grow spiritually during my educational journey. After researching, looking at, and visiting other educational institutions, I found that SNU was the perfect fit for me."

Throughout his MBA program, Vincent was immersed in a community that encouraged him as a whole person, intellectually, academically, and spiritually.

Graduate Business Program Director Dr. Keith Toles Jr. states, "At SNU, our primary aim is to facilitate the realization of the inherent potential in our adult learners. This objective is achieved through the cultivation of a nurturing educational milieu coupled with the provision of essential resources requisite for their success. Witnessing Vincent's exemplary commitment and dedication in the classroom, it is evident that these qualities have propelled his success within our MBA program. His attainment of both hard and soft skills positions him favorably for advancement within the dynamic marketplace."

Guided by dedicated professors and surrounded by supportive peers, Vincent thrived in the challenging yet rewarding environment of SNU. With each class and every interaction, Vincent grew as a student, a leader, and as a person of faith. Upon graduation, he looked to capitalize on his degree and transition into a higher-paying role, and SNU’s MBA didn’t disappoint!

"Since earning my degree, the job market widely opened up and I was offered a position as the Supply Chain Manager in Cresco, IA, and another for Boeing near Tinker AFB. After deciding to stay with Exiss Trailers, I was assigned additional duties as a project manager and assumed a higher level of responsibility for the tracking and completion of livestock and horse trailers."

Through his dedication and expertise, Vincent continues to make a meaningful impact in his field, leveraging his skills to drive positive change and innovation.

"I thank our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for leading me to SNU. I have spoken to both of my boys and have encouraged them to look into SNU and the opportunities it provides."

Vincent's journey is a testament to the power of faith, education, and perseverance. As he continues to inspire others with his story, Vincent remains steadfast in his commitment to lifelong learning and service, knowing that the possibilities are endless when guided by faith and driven by purpose.
