[Bethany, Oklahoma] - Southern Nazarene University (SNU) proudly congratulates Dr. Scott Secor for receiving the Distinguished Psychologist Award from the Oklahoma Psychological Association (OPA). SNU’s Program Director for Graduate Programs in Counseling and Psychology was recognized with this award at the Annual OPA Conference on Friday, November 8, 2024.
The Distinguished Psychologist Award from the OPA honors psychologists who have made significant contributions to the field through exceptional clinical practice, research, teaching, advocacy, or leadership. Recipients are recognized for their professional achievements and positive impact on psychology at both the state and national levels.
"I am very humbled to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Secor. “I am very proud of being a psychologist and am thankful to all the supervisees, students, and colleagues that make this work so rewarding."
SNU also congratulates Counseling and Psychology student Gemma Weir for being named OPA Distinguished Undergraduate Student for her work as a Renew ambassador and for her efforts in clinical research.
The OPA Distinguished Undergraduate Student Award recognizes outstanding undergraduate psychology students who demonstrate academic excellence, research or practical experience, leadership, and strong potential for future success in the field. This award celebrates their achievements and encourages them to pursue graduate studies or careers in psychology, promoting future leaders in the discipline.
“I was shocked and deeply honored to receive this award from OPA,” said Weir. “It feels like such a meaningful affirmation from my professors and peers that I’m pursuing the right path. Having not started my college journey as a psychology major, I’ve sometimes struggled with confidence in this field,” she explains. “I’ve poured my heart into my education and research, and this recognition reassures me that it’s all been worth it. I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity and I’m excited to see where it leads me in the future!”
