Over these past few months,
we have been talking about
our anxieties and fears.
A stressful time for many folks
is young motherhood!
Especially if you are a mom who is…
… working a full time job!
… working a full time job and going to school!
… working a full time job, going to school and single!
… struggling in a dysfunctional marriage!
… juggling more than one child!
… worrying about finances
… starting over and wondering if you can do it!
… overwhelmed!
One of the most stressful times for my wife
was when she was working full time
and we had two children in diapers.
(Plus she was helping me as a pastor’s wife,
which was like having a second full time job.)
Even though I tried to help her,
I’m afraid I wasn’t as helpful as I should have been.
She carried most of the load of our family
and, therefore, had lots of stress and anxiety.
During those days, she found a new favorite Bible verse:
“And it came to pass…”
This phrase can be found numerous times in the Bible.
Actually… 463 times!
Look it up!!! 😊
The significance of this little Bible verse for Cheryl
was that “it came to pass.”
It didn’t “come to stay!”
Her anxiety was calmed (somewhat)
with the assurance that
whatever situation she was facing…
“it came… to pass.”
Teething… came to pass.
Diapers… came to pass.
Having “spit up” on every dress… came to pass.
The terrible two’s… came to pass.
Parenting disagreements… came to pass.
Running to my next appointment… came to pass.
Volunteering at school… came to pass.
Doing the mothering thing while getting her Master’s degree… came to pass.
Everyone is at a different stage of life
and so each of us have different stresses.
It might help to look at whatever it is
that is causing so much anxiety
and realize that “it came to pass.”
It did not come to stay!
That undoubtedly will not take away all your challenges
but it might de-stress life enough
to take a deep breath… and trust God!
