Continuing your education proves you’re looking to level up. Whether you started college to advance at work, fulfill a personal goal, or set a good example for your family, it’s time to put the pedal to the metal and do what you came to do. Here are eight ways you can ace your next class.
1. Attend class and pay attention
This might seem like a no-brainer, but one of the best things you can do to boost your GPA is attending class and paying attention. Keep your phone on silent in your backpack, have your notebook ready to jot down important information, and listen to what your professor says. You will be surprised by how much you remember!
2. Read over notes
After class, either that night or the morning after, read back over your notes. Although simply taking notes can boost your performance, reading them over has a significant impact on information recall.
3. Rewrite notes with a twist
When it comes time to study for your exams, rewrite your notes, filling in information with your textbook, online resources and memory. Not only will this allow you to go over what you’ve learned, but it will also help you learn new, relevant information.
4. Use office hours
Oftentimes, professors set office hours where students can visit them in person and ask questions. Use this time available, even if it’s just to review the last class. This is a great time to get to know your professor and ask questions about topics that may have stumped you in class.
5. Seek tutoring
If your university has a tutoring center, use it! This service is often added into your tuition, so you have already paid for tutoring. Tutors can help you study for exams, review your papers, and work through homework with you.
6. Schedule time for study and homework
As an adult student, it’s easy to get swamped with a long list of obligations. To ensure you have time for your education, schedule an hour or two each week for schoolwork and protect that time.
7. Be on time
You will be surprised what being on time will do for your GPA. Make it a priority to arrive to class on time and turn your homework in on time.
8. Ask for help
No one goes through their education alone. Reach out for help when you need it. Your professor may be able to point you to great resources like counseling, chaplain services, tutoring, financial aid, or other services that will help you succeed.
It's time to put these tips into action. Remember, you have the tools you need to be successful as an adult student. We're here to help you every step of the way.
